Age Divisions 2026:
- UNDER 8 (MINI KIDS) 2019 until today
- UNDER 10 (JUVENILE 1) 2017 – 2018
- UNDER 12 (JUVENILE 2) 2015 – 2016
- UNDER 14 (JUNIOR 1) 2013 – 2014
- UNDER 16 (JUNIOR 2) 2011 – 2012
- OVER 16 (AMATEUR) 2007 and over
- UNDER 19 (YOUTH) 2008 – 2010
- OVER 35 (SENIOR)
Rules:
1. Participation in 5D and 1D Categories
Competitors participating in 5D categories may not participate in 1D categories, except in Pro/Am.
2. Music Provided by the Organizers
Music for the following categories is provided by the organizers:
- Oriental Classic Solo
- Contemporary Solo
- Jazz Funk Solo
- Commercial Solo
- Dancehall Solo
- Reggaeton Solo
- K-pop Solo
- Hip Hop Solo
The tracks are available on the official website under Organizers’ Music.
3. Oriental Categories
- Accessories are permitted only in the Solo Belly Dance Show, Greek Tsifteteli, Duo and Group categories.
- Teachers may not participate in adult Oriental groups.
4. Adult Groups
Adult groups must consist of at least six dancers. Only one member may be a teacher.
This does not apply to adult Oriental groups, in which teachers may not participate.
5. Adult Mini Groups
Adult mini groups must consist of three to five dancers. Only one member may be a teacher.
This does not apply to adult Oriental groups, in which teachers may not participate.
6. Children’s Groups
Adults may not participate in children’s groups.
7. Age Exceptions in Groups
The following exceptions apply to dancers who do not meet the group’s age requirements:
- Groups with fewer than seven members may include one dancer outside the age division.
- Groups with seven to nine members may include up to two dancers outside the age division.
- Groups with ten to twelve members may include up to three dancers outside the age division.
- Groups with thirteen or more members, including Mega Crews, may include up to four dancers outside the age division.
In each case, the age difference must not exceed one age division.
There is no restriction on the participation of younger children.
If an objection is submitted and a violation is proven, the group will automatically be placed last.
8. Group Routine Duration
Group routines must not exceed 3:00 minutes.
If an objection is submitted and a violation is proven, the group will automatically be placed last.
9. Mega Crew Routine Duration
Mega Crew routines must not exceed 4:00 minutes.
10. Duo Routine Duration
In Duo categories, music and routines must not exceed 1:30 minutes, except for:
* Duo Oriental/Belly Dance Show Professional: maximum 3:00 minutes.
11. Duo Latin Categories
Dance holds are not permitted in Duo Latin categories.
If a dance hold is used, the entry will be considered an Am/Am entry.
12. Am/Am Categories
Dancers in Am/Am categories must follow a closed syllabus.
13. Solo Routine Duration
In Solo categories, music and routines must not exceed 1:30 minutes, except for:
- Solo Oriental/Belly Dance Show - Classic, Folklore, Fantasy and Drum Solo: maximum 2:30 minutes.
- Greek Tsifteteli: maximum 2:00 minutes.
- Solo Oriental/Belly Dance Show Professional: maximum 3:00 minutes.
14. Oriental/Belly Dance Show Styles
The Oriental/Belly Dance Show categories include the following styles:
- Classic: Raqs Sharqi, Tarab, Pop, Lyrical and Romantic.
- Folklore: Saidi, Baladi, Shaabi, Khaleegy, Iraqi, Dabke, Muwashahat, Nubian and Eskandarani.
- Fantasy: Fan Veils, Isis Wings, Shamadan, Sword, Tray, Flamenco Oriental and Latin Oriental.
- Greek Tsifteteli: songs from any decade. Accessories are permitted.
15. Arrival Time
Competitors must arrive at least one hour before the scheduled start of their category to avoid delays.
16. Dance Costumes
Dance costumes are permitted in all categories, provided they are not provocative.
17. Latin and Ballroom Show Routines
Any Latin or Ballroom routine featuring accessories, acrobatics or lifts lasting more than three seconds must be entered in a Show category.
Otherwise, the competitors will automatically be placed last.
18. Lifts in All Ladies Groups
Any lift included in an All Ladies Group routine must not exceed three seconds.
19. Contemporary Group Show Routines
Contemporary Group routines involving costume changes or props must be entered in a Show category.
Otherwise, the competitors will automatically be placed last.
20. K-pop Rules
Solo categories:
- Perform the song’s original choreography.
- Include lip sync.
- Use styling corresponding to that of the idol.
Group categories:
Groups perform to their own music and may be mixed.
- Perform the original choreography.
- Include lip sync.
- Use styling corresponding to that of the idol.
21. Smoking and Vaping
Smoking and vaping are strictly prohibited throughout the venue.
22. Closed Categories — Latin / Ballroom
Closed categories are divided into levels according to the official Walter Laird book for professional qualifications:
- Bronze: only Associate-level figures are permitted.
- Silver: Licentiate-level figures are permitted.
- Gold: Fellow-level figures are permitted.
Figures that are outside the syllabus but included in the book, such as Three Threes, are permitted only in the Gold category.

- Closed categories marked “Rising Stars” cover Bronze and Silver levels.
Example: Solo Latin One Dance Cha-Cha Juvenile 1 Under 10 Closed Rising Stars. - Closed categories without any additional designation cover Bronze, Silver and Gold levels.

Additional Closed Syllabus Rules
- A dancer or couple competing with a closed syllabus may also enter Open categories.
- The reverse is strictly prohibited: a dancer or couple performing Open material in a Closed category will automatically be disqualified and placed last.
- In Closed Rising Stars categories, competitors may perform Associate- and Licentiate-level figures.
- In standard Closed categories, competitors may perform all figures from the above levels, as well as additional Fellow-level figures and figures outside the syllabus.
23. Moving to a Higher Competition Level
A dancer must move to a higher level when either of the following conditions applies:
- Two years in the current level
A dancer who has completed two years in their current level must move to the next level, regardless of results.
For example, a Beginner moves to Rising Stars after two years in the Beginner category. Likewise, a Rising Stars dancer moves to the standard category after two years, regardless of the number of competitions entered or the results achieved. - Top-three results in 70% of competitions
A dancer who finishes in the top three in 70% of the competitions entered within one year must automatically move to the next corresponding level from the following year.
Additional provisions:
- A dancer may compete as a Beginner or Rising Star in one dance and in the standard category in another.
- Moving to a new age division does not change the dancer’s competition level. For example, a Junior 2 Rising Stars dancer does not become a Youth Beginner upon entering the Youth division.
24. Pro/Am Categories
- Pro/Am: only the student is judged.
- Pro/Am Scholarship: the entire couple is judged as a unit, including both the student and the professional.
25. Solo Categories
- Music for Oriental Classic Solo, Contemporary Solo, Jazz Funk Solo, Commercial Solo, Dancehall Solo, Reggaeton Solo, K-pop Solo and Hip Hop Solo is provided by the organizers and is available on the official event website.
- In Solo categories, competitors must wear their competition number on their body.
- Accessories are not permitted. Any detachable part of a competitor’s costume is considered an accessory.
26. Show Categories
- In Show categories, competitors provide their own music.
- Competitors may place their competition number on the floor.
- Accessories are permitted depending on the category.
27. Duo Categories
Music and routines must not exceed 1:30 minutes, except for:
- Duo Oriental/Belly Dance: maximum 2:00 minutes.
- Duo Oriental/Belly Dance Professional: maximum 3:00 minutes.
Dance holds are not permitted in Duo Latin categories. If a hold is used, the entry is classified as Am/Am.
Dancers in Am/Am categories must follow a closed syllabus.
28. Group Categories
- Every group must have a name. If the name changes, please notify the GNDA secretariat.
- Music must not be used to promote the dance school.
- Group routines must not exceed 3:00 minutes. Groups exceeding this limit will automatically be placed last.
- Mega Crew routines must not exceed 4:00 minutes.
- The group’s entrance and exit must not exceed 15 seconds.
- Messages of a religious, national, sexist or political nature are prohibited during the performance.
29. All Ladies Latin Categories
STRICTLY LATIN
- Themed music is not permitted.
- The music must be Latin.
- Themed makeup is prohibited.
- Accessories and detachable costume elements are prohibited.
- Themed costumes are prohibited. An outfit suitable for a standard competition category is not considered a themed costume.
- Acrobatic figures and lifts are prohibited. Floor contact in the form of drops is permitted for up to three seconds.
- Recognized figures of the relevant dance style must predominate in the choreography.
ALL LADIES SHOW
- Themed music is permitted.
- Themed makeup and costumes are permitted.
- Accessories and detachable costume elements are permitted, provided they can be collected after the routine.
- Lifts lasting up to 15 seconds, drops and floorwork are permitted during the routine.
30. Dress Code
Dance costumes are permitted in all categories, provided they are not provocative.
The clothing restrictions apply exclusively to Juvenile 1 and Juvenile 2, according to the agreed specifications for Latin and Ballroom categories.
Juvenile Dress Regulations
Makeup
Makeup applied to minors must look natural and be appropriate for their age group: subtle blush, light mascara and soft lipstick.
Sponsor Logos
Up to three sponsor logos are permitted per couple. Their total size must not exceed 40 centimetres, for example, 8 × 5 cm.
Jewellery
* Only jewellery of a personal or religious nature may be worn. It must be worn around the neck and kept inside the clothing.
* Earrings no larger than 2 cm are permitted.
* Decorative bracelets are not permitted.
* Rings and wristwatches are not permitted.
BOYS
Trousers
* Trousers must be black or dark blue.
* High-waisted trousers are optional.
* Foot straps and a belt are optional.
* Satin stripes along the outer sides are permitted.
Shirts
* A plain white or black long-sleeved shirt with a collar is required.
* Pleats are not permitted.
* Sleeves must be worn at wrist length.
* Black or dark blue waistcoats are permitted.
* Sweaters and jackets are not permitted.
* The tie must be black, either a standard tie or a bow tie.
Socks
Only black or dark blue socks are permitted.
Shoes
* Heel height must not exceed 1.5 inches.
* Shoes must be strictly black or white.
Materials and Fabrics
* Fabrics must be plain, such as cotton, polyester, cotton/polyester blends or wool blends.
* Satin and shiny fabrics are not permitted.
* Swarovski stones, glitter, metallic accessories, patterns and sequins are prohibited.
* Decorations are not permitted.
GIRLS
Girls may wear:
* A leotard with a plain skirt; or
* A plain dress with attached underwear.
Skirts
* A plain or pleated skirt with one to three flounces is permitted.
* Additional panels may not be added to the skirt.
* Decorative hems, frills, slits, openings, lace and sequins are not permitted.
* Boning, crinoline and similar materials may be used as part of the construction, but not as decoration.
* The skirt must end no more than 8 cm above or 8 cm below the knee.
* The skirt must be a single colour and must not be transparent.
Necklines
Boat neck, high neck, V-neck, sweetheart, Peter Pan and standard necklines are permitted.
Waistband
A waistband extending downwards from the waist, with a maximum width of 4 cm, is permitted if it is part of the dress and not a separate accessory.
Materials
* Fabrics must be one consistent colour throughout.
* Swarovski crystals, glitter, metallic accessories, pearls, patterns, sequins and similar materials are prohibited.
* Feathers, fringes, bows, belts, frills and sequins are prohibited.
* Skin-coloured costumes are prohibited.
* Lace matching the costume colour, or patterned fabric, must be lined with the costume fabric from the waist to the shoulder. Lining is not required on the arms.
* These treatments must not cover more than 40% of the costume.
Leotards
* The upper part of the leotard or costume may be sleeveless or have short, elbow-length or wrist-length sleeves.
* The lower part must provide coverage to the hip line and must not be cut higher.
Accessories
Bracelets, necklaces and gloves are not permitted.
Hair Decorations
* A flower or ribbon no larger than 10 cm may be worn in the hair.
* Tiaras, headbands or decorations with diamond embellishments are not permitted.
Shoes
* Heel height must not exceed 1.5 inches.
* Shoes with rhinestones on the buckle or glitter are permitted.
* For Junior categories, a maximum heel height of 2 inches is optional.
* In Junior 1, a slim Cuban heel may be worn and is recommended.
* In Junior 2, there are no restrictions.
Socks
* White ankle socks are compulsory. A small amount of lace is permitted.
* Fishnet tights are prohibited.
Dress Code Objections
If an objection is raised, the Chairperson will advise the competitor to change their costume or move to the same category in the next age division.
If the competitor can change their outfit, they may continue normally in the next round.
31. Contemporary
A. Improvisation
In this category, competitors must improvise to music supplied by the organizers at the time of the performance.
Prearranged movement patterns are prohibited. Structured choreographies must be entered in Solo Contemporary.
B. Acrobatics in Contemporary Categories
Routines in this category must use movement vocabulary drawn from contemporary dance techniques, including swings, falls, jumps, changes of level, control of gravity and floorwork.
Routines incorporating rhythmic gymnastics techniques or techniques from any form of acrobatic dance, as illustrated in the referenced videos, must be entered in Show Dance.
A competitor using the specified acrobatic techniques in their routine will automatically be placed last.
The aim is to protect the physical safety of competitors.

C. Clothing and Props
- Competitors in Contemporary categories may dance barefoot, in socks or in specialist dance foot coverings.
- Routines involving costume changes or the removal of clothing must be entered in a Show category.
32. Code of Conduct and Ethics
Competitors must:
- Maintain a high standard of conduct before, during and after the competition, and be gracious regardless of the result.
- Respect fellow competitors, opponents, spectators, organizers and all other parties involved.
- Avoid all forms of discrimination, including xenophobia and racism, whether expressed in writing, verbally, through gestures or facial expressions.
- Arrive on time, at least one hour early, and in an appropriate physical and mental condition.
- Participate in the parade and the awards ceremony.

Beginners / Rising Stars Categories
Competition categories and levels are defined as follows:
